                         The TRUE…and SIMPLE…Secret to Success!
Successful pest control marketing is not about doing any one big thing…it is about doing a thousand little things…and doing them all CORRECTLY.

If you’ve been a follower of mine for any length of time you’ve heard me say that more than once.Successful marketing of any business relies on creating successful campaigns and strategies that PROVE to be money makers…and then creating more of them.

Successful ad campaigns are like little money machines that always give you back more money than you put in.

The problem is…the vast majority of small business owners don’t know how to build the machines. So, they hire other people to build them for them. And the people they hire don’t know how to build them either. At least not the ones that really pay off big. And some of them don’t pay off at all. They break even at best.

We’ve all heard it said that, “You have to spend money to make money”. And that’s true…up to a point. But, by learning how the buyer’s mind really works and learning how to speak to it directly…you can make a lot of money by spending a little bit of money.

Another big problem with small business owners…including PCOs is this: They are AFRAID!

What are they afraid of?

Many things!

They are afraid of…
• Failure
• The unknown
• Being embarrassed
• Being criticized
• Trying new things
• Success (Yes…the thought of having more responsibilities, more employees, more vehicles, a bigger building, more clients, etc. literally scares the hell out of some people!)

But…the number one fear that almost ever person has…whether they are in business or not is…fear of POVERTY. And that is the reason many people are afraid of all of the above bullet points. In one way or another they can all be traced back to fear of poverty.

Even when we see people putting a dollar bill into a little machine and getting back two dollars…we are still reluctant to put one of our own dollars in the machine. The FEAR VOICE in our head says to us, “What if it doesn’t work this time. I’ll lose my dollar!”

And we listen to that voice…and we lose another great opportunity to find more success.

Sad but true.

There’s another old saying that goes something like this: “If you want to be successful simply watch what successful people do and go do it! If you want to fail, simply watch what failures do and go do it!”

Successful people tend to do the following:
• They work hard.
• They have a vision and a goal.
• They seek knowledge and better ways to do things.
• They read self-help books.
• They study business.
• They learn how to sell.
• They seek advice and counsel.
• They have mentors and coaches.
• They aren’t afraid to fail.
• They never give up.
• They always follow up.
• They maintain a positive mental attitude…even when things aren’t going well.
• They aren’t afraid to try new things.
• They accept responsibility for their failures and tend to give others credit for their successes.

Unsuccessful people tend to do the following:
• They tend to be lazy.
• They have no clear vision.
• They don’t set goals.
• They don’t read the right books.
• They don’t seek advice and knowledge from others (because they think they already know it all).
• They are deathly afraid to fail at anything…so they don’t try or risk anything.
• They are quick to throw in the towel and quit when something goes wrong.
• They have a negative mental attitude.
• They are afraid to try new things.
• They claim full responsibility for their successes and blame others for their failures.

Success in any small business…including pest control…is not rocket science. It is not brain surgery. It is a very simple thing to achieve…if you know how to do it. They problem with most people who start up a new business…whether online or brick & mortar…is that they DON’T know how to do it. And that is why 82% of them are gone by the end of the third year!

The best advice I can give you on how to create a GROWING, THRIVING, FUN…AND PROFITABLE business that practically runs itself is to simply learn how to do it. I don’t mean to sound flippant with that statement, but it really is as simple as that.

Things you should start doing NOW include…
• Seek out successful people who are ready and willing to help you.
• Become a student of business, both online and offline.
• Learn how to sell.
• Learn to navigate the internet.
• Learn to be comfortable being uncomfortable.
• Spend more time working ON your business and less time working IN your business.
• Learn to delegate.
• Hire people who are strong in the things YOU are weak in.
• Spend LOTS OF TIME on self- improvement and building a better YOU.

All of this might sound complicated and a little overwhelming…but it’s not. You eat an elephant one bite at a time. You get better at things by practicing them and doing them…one day at a time.

Pest Control Marketing – 3 BIG Things You Must Do!

Pest Control Marketing Strategies and Resources to help YOU grow your business!

Pest control marketing strategies are …or at least should be…designed for one purpose…and that is to get more new customers.

When marketing a small business of any kind there are 3 basic rules you must follow in order to be successful. I like to call it the 3 legged stool of marketing.

And those 3 legs are:

  1. Message
  2. Market
  3. Media

If you fail to properly negotiate any one of the legs, the stool will not stand up. It will fall.

Message:  This is what you want to say to your prospects. It is your battle cry. It is the bold promise or benefit that you want to deliver to your customers. And it MUST be something that they really want. Otherwise they will NOT buy it.

Market: These are the people you want to deliver your message to. Example: If you are selling hamburgers, you want to find a crowd of hamburger lovers who are hungry and ready to eat lunch! You can have a great message but if you deliver it to the wrong market you will not be successful.

Media: This is the vehicle you choose to deliver you message to your chosen market.  Radio, television, direct mail, door-to-door, yard signs, billboards, etc. are all examples of forms of media.

If you have a great message…and you find a way to deliver it to the right people…at the right time…you cannot fail.

Pest Control Marketing – Offline marketing strategies you can use NOW!

Pest Control Marketing Tip

Pest control marketing is not about any one big thing. It is lots of little things.

People often ask me this question: “What is one big thing I can do to grow my business?”

And my answer is always the same:  “I don’t know of any one big thing that will grow your business. But I can tell you lots of little things.”

Growing a business is like growing a human body. If you want to add 20 lbs. of rock hard muscles you have to do lots of things.

  • You have to eat the proper amounts of proteins and other nutrients.
  • You have to increase your water intake.
  • You have to target the muscles you want to grow.
  • You have to do the proper exercises to focus on those particular muscles.
  • You have to know how to do the exercises CORRECTLY.
  • You have to get the proper amount of rest and sleep.

And, unless you know a lot about body building…you probably need to have a professional trainer to insure that you get the most success from your efforts and don’t hurt yourself.

I spend most of my time answering questions about pest control selling and pest control marketing, both online and offline.

I recently did a live Q & A pest control marketing webinar with my good friend and internet marketing guru Mike Stewart.  We got lots of great questions from PCOs all over the country, and even as far away as Greece, Italy, Australia and The U.K.  Yes…the have pests in those countries too!

Pest Control Marketing – Why timid salespeople have scrawny kids

Pest  Control Marketing Tip # 139

Zig Ziglar said, “Timid salespeople have scrawny kids!”.  What he meant by that statement was this: If you are afraid to go out and sell…and sell boldly…you won’t make enough money to feed your kids very well.

Most salespeople are not nearly as bold…or as committed…as they should be.

They leave money on the table because of the following reasons:

  • They are afraid to ask for it.
  • They don’t follow up enough to finally get it.
  • They don’t have a powerful, dynamic, compelling, seductive, hypnotic and irresistible sales presentation.
  • They don’t believe they need that last one.
  • They are not constantly striving to get better

These are only a few of the reasons that salespeople don’t get all of the money they could…or should.

Pest Control Marketing involves personal growth and continuous learning in order to be successful

Pest control marketing is just about all I do these days. I no longer own and operate a pest control business myself, but I work with small to medium sized pest control companies all over The USA plus I’ve worked with PCOs in Australia and The UK as well.

In my 44 years in the industry, I’ve noticed lots of changes (no surprise). I’ve been a great observer due to my love of people watching. I’ve made lots of notes, hung out with lots of both successful and unsuccessful PCOs.

One thing I can tell you for a FACT is this: When it comes to success, those individuals who are the most proactive and aggressive learners are the ones who invariably end up on top.

Successful PCOs have develops successful habits. They have developed what I refer to as “Caveman Mentality”, meaning they pursue new customers the same way the caveman pursued food. It was on his mind day and night and he knew his very life and existence depended on being able to get another animal on the ground.

Successful PCOs…

  • Read books
  • Attend workshops
  • Listen to audio CDS
  • Watch DVDs
  • Invest in training
  • Have mentors
  • Invest in education
  • Never stop finding better ways to get more customers

I once made a suggestion to a PCO that he read a certain book on selling and his reply was, “Read a book?  I wish I had time to read a book”.

My response was…”You should make time if you want to grow your business and be more successful”.

If you think you already know everything you need to know to be successful, you are only kidding yourself.

Why?  Because things change. Economies change. Customers change. Cultures change. Technology changes.

And if you don’t keep up with it, you will fall behind more and more as time goes by.

If you want to create a GROWING, THRIVING…and PROFITABLE business…you must be a constant learner.  You will never be able to just figure it all out on your own.

That is what successful pest control marketing is all about.
