I’m sure this article will offend some people. But, if you are one of the one’s I’m referring to, I hope it doesn’t. I hope it makes you stop and think seriously about what I’m about to say.
The number one, biggest reason why many small business people…PCOs included…have trouble growing their businesses is that they rely on making excuses rather than finding solutions.
OK…let me explain what I mean by that. I spend the vast majority of my time these days talking with small business owners about how to increase their sales and grow their businesses.
And, when the conversation drifts around to WHY they are not happy with their current sales and business growth, they begin to tell me all the reasons WHY things are not going as well as they would like.
The following are some of the top excuses I hear from small business owners almost daily:
- I’m just too busy…..
- I can’t afford to…
- I’m doing just fine (even though you just told me you weren’t)
- I’m in the process of…
- I already have a website…
- I just took out and ad…
- I might do that next year…
- I’ll lose production if I take a day off…
- I’m working on building a team (If you knew how, you’d already have one).
- I know I need to, but…
- You don’t understand the way I run my business…
- My business is different…
- I’m planning on…
- I know I need to…
- Yea, but…
- Etc., etc., etc.
Awhile back I actually had a PCO tell me that he knew that attending The PMP Discovery Retreat would be a good thing to help him build a team but he couldn’t take two days off because he had just had to put a new transmission in one of his trucks! (So I guess blaming it on the truck is another one for the list.)
If you’re having a problem getting your team in place and your growth on track …then YOU NEED HELP. If you really knew how to do it…it would already be done. Successful business people find solutions.
Unsuccessful ones make excuses. I know this sounds blunt, but it is a FACT nevertheless.
Bottom line: If you want to move your business forward and get things on track and keep them there, you need seek out the proper mentors, teachers, and coaches who can help you and guide you and hold you accountable…and the sooner the better. One more day of not moving forward is one day too many.
