In order to solve a problem, you must first identify it.

And, if you’re a doctor, in order to treat a person for an illness, you must first find “where it hurts”. The first thing a doctor does is start poking around on your body and asking you, “does that hurt?…does this hurt?”
When selling, you must find out what is causing the prospect pain and misery. You must find out where it hurts. Once you locate the pain…or problem…you can then offer the proper solution that will make them feel better.
